Welcome to the SPA Article Archives!

This first set is a collection of articles that Stephen wrote, one of which ended up as a heavily edited sidebar, one which didn't and one which was never published...
  1. Original uncensored text of MIX magazine interview with Jürg Sennheiser
  2. Test Equipment Article from MIX
  3. Session Seasons Chapter One: David Lindley (From an unpublished series for Acoustic Guitar magazine)
Below are links to the Vintage Microphones series that Stephen wrote for MIX in 1989, which lit the fuse for the microphone explosion of the 1990's. As you will see in the editor's preface, they are among the most requested articles in the MIX back issue archive. These are also available directly from us in collected, printed form, with illustrations and typesetting as they originally appeared in the magazine (without typos,) for a nominal fee. Note that these links will take you away from this site to the MIX site-
  1. Vintage Microphones Part 1, by Stephen Paul, October 1989 (includes U47, pressure gradient and proximity effect)
  2. Vintage Microphones Part 2, by Stephen Paul, November 1989 (includes U67, U87, M49 and M50)
  3. Vintage Microphones Part 3, by Stephen Paul, December 1989 (includes C12 and ELA M 250/251)
Last, we'll include a link, again to the Mix site, of a profile story on us by Maureen Droney, in the L.A. Grapevine column of the magazine: (Note that the digitized version jumps rather abruptly to another profile, with no warning.)

L.A. Grapevine, by Maureen Droney, Mar 1999
